Random Ork models

A converted Ghazghull Thraka, the power klaw and shoota have been converted to be on the opposite arms, also the shoota has much more dakka!

Space Wolves Iron Priest - finished

Here are some pictures of the finished Iron Priest. I am quite pleased with how he turned out.

Njal Stormcaller finished

"After banishing the Greater Daemon that slew the old Rune Priest Heimdall. Njal summoned up a mighty psychic storm, sweeping away the daemon's minions and bringing victory to his hard-pressed brother Space Wolves. From that day forth Njal was known as 'Storm Caller'."

Here are finished pics of Njal Stormcaller, with his customised banner. It took a little longer than I expected to paint the banner, but I think it looks good.

A different angle

Njal's banner. This design was copied straight from Codex: Space Wolves. The picture in the codex was the same size as the actual banner, which made it much easier to copy!

Njal and Iron Priest

An update on Njal Stormcaller, and first pics of the Iron Priest. Njal's backpack and banner are just blue-tacked on for the picture. The banner was taken from the High Elf Archers sprue and cut down to size, the cross bar is also from the High Elf Archers with the decorations on each side cut off. Njal is nearly finished now, his armour has been highlighted and the bone has been finished, so not much left now.

The Iron Priest only has the basecoats on at the moment, the metal has been washed but still needs more work, and the armour has had the first highlight. He still needs quite a bit of work.

More of Njal

Here are some more pictures of Njal Stormcaller (still work in progress) I've now just about finished his face, just need final highlight. The armour has had the main colour all over, also just needs final highlight. The runes on his armour have been given a first highlight and his beard is nearly done. The raven's beak and talons have been given a basecoat, as well as the inside of the cloack and holster.


The backpack has been taken off to make it easier to paint the runes on the shoulderpad. Also I may end up putting a plastic banner on the pole, which is much easier to do if it's not attached to the model.

Njal Stormcaller

Here are some work in progress pics of my latest commission, Space Wolves special character Njal Stormcaller. This model is definately one of the oldest (if not the oldest) model I've ever painted! It's a nice model, with lots of detail.

Most of the model has just had the basecoats done at the moment. The raven and the staff have had more done to them than any other parts, the staff in particular, seen as it's covered in runes!

Finished Space Wolves Characters

Ok, well I finished the 3 characters and sent them off on the weekend. I think they've turned out really well, Logan Grimnar in particular. I quite enjoyed painting these guys and was able to improve some techniques that I don't use all that often, such as the blending on Ragnar's sword.

Logan's face actually looks better in the work in progress pics, this shot is ever so slightly blurry (I would have taken new ones but I'd already sent the models before realising!) The shoulder pad was painted yellow to match the rest of the army rather than Logan's personal design.

I spent quite a while on Ragnar's sword, starting with a very dark red, which was made up using a mix of Mechrite Red and Dark Flesh (I have a pre-mixed pot, roughly 50/50) and add quite a bit of chaos black. I kept adding more of the Mechrite/Dark Flesh to the mix on the palette and painted thin layers which were progressively lighter towards the tip of the sword (remembering to do the back at the same time to get both sides even!) The very tip of the sword is just the original mix of Mechrite Red and Dark Flesh.

Ulrik has a nice bone mask, which made quite a change to the faces of the other two. For the bone, I used a basecoat of Khemri brown, and kept adding Bleached Bone with each layer (leaving the previous colour in the recesses) right up to pure Bleached Bone as a final highlight.

They still need a bit more detail work, and the gold isn't finished, also I've just noticed that I forgot to highlight the bone icon on Logan Grimnar's leg - oops! so I need to go back and do that too.

Space Wolves Terminators

Well the Terminators are now finished, they took a little longer than expected - I had a slight mishap with a craft knife which delayed my painting for a couple of days. I forgot that I had changed the blade recently and ended up with an inch-long cut down the middle of my thumb :(

A work in progress picture of a squad of Space Wolves Terminators that I'm currently painting for a commission. They've pretty much just had the basecoats on everything at the moment, and the bases are finished. Next up will be a wash on the metal areas and the Sgt's head followed by highlights on everything.

High Elf Mage (I've only got the one pic of her)

Ultramarines Thunderfire Cannon - I was set a hobby task to build and paint this in one day. I was a bit apprehensive at first as I'd heard that it was a difficult kit and none of the pieces matched up. I was actually quite surprised how well it fitted together, it only took a little effort with the file to get the main gun on the platform, and a tiny amount of green stuff on the barrel. Apart from that, it went together quite nicely. I successfully completed my hobby task :)

Blood Angels Characters

Everyone kept complaining how difficult it was to paint red (this was back before the GW foundation paints came out) I thought to myself, it can't be that hard! So I set about painting the Blood Angels characters (I know only two of them are actually red, but gold can be just as hard!) I was half tempted to start a Blood Angels army, but I already had a pretty decent sized marine army, and wasn't all that interested in having a second one, so I settled for just the characters. I was quite pleased with how the red turned out on Corbulo.
